by franklin J ini have been bitten by the fencing bug...anyone else every try this sport?

Stacey,
the girls I have fenced with are good. ( no "macho" postulating from me!) Their moves were far more deadly , deliberate and faster than mine. While a thrust to the groin is an off target penalty ( and of course can be painful to a guy) a "a parry repost" and target hit to the chest area can be painful to a girl---they all have breast plates under their jackets to prevent this.

Should The Age Of Consent Be Lowered To 13?
by Englishman inat present the age of consent in the uk is 16. .
in spain the age of consent is 13. .
the argument i have heard put forward is that a legal age of consent has little effect on younger people.

I do not think it is a good idea to lower the age of consent. All previous postings have raised interesting points that had never occured to me, but are giving me pause to think.
I have a very bright attractive 12 year old girl who thinks she is 18. My wife and I are trying to keep her 12 years old and focused on the routine of a 12 year old. So far, we have been successful. But the child does not understand why she cannot date, go out alone with her friends, etc. She does not understand why we want to know who she is with at all times .Drugs or alcohol is not a problem (hopefully never) It has been my experience that this generation of children has matured faster than the generation I grew up in, and we as parents just have to make the best of it. If the age of consent were lowered ( God help us), it would make our lives difficult.
Or, perhaps we are just postponing the inevitable, they are going to grow up with or without our consent.

Yesterday we bought our Very First Christmas Tree!
by cruzanheart inwell, actually, i did, but with the blessings of the family.
it's fake (too many allergies in the house to risk a real one), pre-lit, and 7 feet tall.
i think it's going to be gorgeous.

Nina,
surprisingly, it is not at all about agression or self defense. I was very surprised to learn that it was all about foot work, right of way and precision moves, very similar to boxing or dancing ( I took those lessons too). You can literaly poke out an eye due to the "thrusting" of the weapon; so you are all suited up with a mask . Once you start, it appears that it is all natural instinct but you are quickly instructed to slow down and follow the routine moves. After a while it "cliques" and is almost like playing a fast game of chess. I always liked the swashbuckler movies and I suppose this is a way of acting out that fantasy.

what the-
You must do what is right for you, for your own peace of mind and well being. All of us posting understand. I wish you well, and you are always welcome to return.
As some "wordly" friends said to me years ago when I was shunned by those who grew up with me " we want to be your friend not matter what religion you are."
And I can honestly pass on the sentiment,
regards

this was hilarious...and I added to it that scripture " a spouse is to render their due" or in other words "put out"...before I handed it to my wife....lucky for me she has a good sense of humor and we both had a good laugh.
In all seriousness, Tatiannas comments were close to the reality in my house.

Was Jesus a space man or something else?

Interesting thesis topic.
the personality of Jesus Christ ( assuming he did exist; and there is no secular evidence to indicate that he did) had to have had tremendous charismatic charm. His thinking swayed an entire nation.
It is also interesting to note that during this time period of the Roman Empire , approximately two thirds of humanity in that empire were "slaves" with no real lives of their own. The belief of christianity and the promise of "the life hereafter" could take hold because they HAD nothing else which would deliver them from their existence as slaves. (sound familiar, anyone?)
I like the spaceman theory better; has more imagination for the 21 century.

Scullys description brings back memories...of what it was like to be part of that organization.
No, I never had to approach elders for any help; my Dad was an Elder. My folks, despite being witnesses, were still good loving parents, I cannot discredit them for raising us in that faith. However, when I "exited" JWs, I got into a nasty tangle with all the local Elders ( got a lawyer to sue them personally); and do agree that they are on some power trip ( they really believe that they have the hot line to god). The case never was pursued on my end because the Elders backed off and left me alone; when they realized that they were in danger of losing the houses that they lived in through a court of law
Once on the outside, I did need help of a different kind.

Is the Bible a coded book?
by JH inhttp://www.thei.aust.com/torah/codereview.html .
reporting is the first rough take on history.
this book is the first full account of a code in the bible that reveals events that took place thousands of years after the bible was written.. .

continuing due to computer glitch...
it all fell apart for me in its credibility when I read that you can translate the text into english and still find the hidden meaniings and prohphecies, and that you can by your own computer disc of the code.
It all began to sound like of big scam to me and I finished the book dissappointed.
